SURF NATION – A UNIFIED IDENTITY ACROSS A NATIONAL CLUB NETWORK

Surf Nation is not a single club. It is a network.

Across the United States, the organization brings together numerous youth soccer clubs, each with its own story, its own community, and often its own look. 

That diversity is what makes Surf Nation strong. And at the same time, complex. As the organization grows, one key question becomes more important:

How do you build one strong brand without losing what makes each club unique?

With the launch of the Ola De Oro collection, this question became the starting point of our collaboration with Surf Nation and Soccer Post. The goal was to create a clear, consistent look that connects all clubs, without making everything look the same. 


THE CHALLENGE

The starting point was demanding.

Surf Nation is not centrally structured. It is a growing network with different needs and use cases, but one shared ambition: to represent a professional and high-quality brand in youth soccer.

The challenge was not just to define a design, but to make sure it could be applied consistently across all products and situations.

This meant:

  • The designs had to look consistent across all clubs
  • They needed to work across different products, from match kits to training and teamwear
  • They had to perform across multiple colour variations
  • And they had to be reliably produced as heat transfer logos

That last point is critical.

Because not every design can be applied in a way that works across different materials and colours.

The task was clear:

👉 Take existing designs and adapt them so they can be implemented in a clean, reliable, and scalable way.


THE SOLUTION

Our role started where design meets reality.

We step in where design needs to be applied.

Together with Surf Nation and Soccer Post, we analyzed the existing designs and adapted them so they could be cleanly applied across different products and materials.

A key focus was:

  • Readability across all colours
  • Making sure details are not lost during application
  • Using effects to enhance the design without overpowering it

The goal was to get the most out of the existing designs and make them work in real-world use.

Implementation as Heat Transfer logos

The crucial step was the implementation.

The designs were produced as heat transfer logos, using the right technologies to ensure both visual quality and performance.

- The club logos were produced using 3D SILICONE X TATAMI. Silicone is applied on a high-quality tatami fabric base, combining two materials to create a structured surface with a distinctive look and a premium feel.

This combination ensures that the designs not only look good, but also perform reliably in real use.

Built to scale across clubs and products

Scalability was a key part of the solution.

The system had to work across an entire network, not just one team.

That’s why everything was designed to:

  • work across different clubs
  • apply to multiple product types
  • remain consistent over time

The result is a solution that grows with the organization.

Speed and execution under real timelines

Another important part of the project was the speed of execution.

The program started in late November. Preproduction samples were developed, approved, and moved into production within a short timeframe.

From there, production scaled quickly and the full rollout was completed only a few months later.

The project showed that the challenge was not only creating designs that work, but also implementing them reliably under real production timelines.

Collaboration as a key factor

Close collaboration between all partners played a major role throughout the project.

Surf Nation brought the brand vision. Soccer Post contributed the retail and distribution perspective. And we made sure the technical implementation connects both.

This was not a simple “brief and deliver” process. It was a continuous exchange, where ideas were refined and solutions tested—always with one goal:

To create something that not only looks good, but works in real use.


THE RESULT

With the Ola De Oro collection, Surf Nation created a unified look that works consistently across different clubs and products.

The designs perform reliably across match kits, training apparel, and additional teamwear — regardless of colours, materials, or applications.

This creates a consistent overall appearance throughout the collection, while still allowing each club to keep its own identity.

From a technical perspective, the project also showed how important a clean and reliable implementation is. The heat transfer logos were produced at large scale and delivered within a very tight timeline.

This combination of design, functionality, and reliable execution was a key part of the project.

That is also reflected in the feedback from Surf Nation:
